Maidstone Borough Council Food Waste Recycling Survey 2026
Maidstone’s “Love Food Hate Waste” campaign has helped hundreds of residents save money and cut down on food waste by promoting smarter shopping, proper food storage and making the most of leftovers. When food waste does occur, using a 23L food waste caddy is an easy way to recycle it, do something positive in the community and reduce your carbon footprint.
Eighteen months ago, the separate food waste collection system was relaunched, focusing on individual houses and promoting a food caddy package.
The results have been very encouraging. Over the last year, food waste tonnage has risen by over 50%, with thousands of residents now taking part and ensuring their food waste is collected every week, delivering an environmental benefit. The material is treated in an anaerobic digestion (AD) plant, where the process generates power for the national grid and produces a liquid fertiliser used on local farmland.
To further refine the system, the Food Waste Recycling Survey is being rerun to understand how residents feel about the food waste collection service now.
